  • Another perfect stay at pendragon View. Heatwave for the first week but cottage stayed cool & comfortable. Had a fabulous meal at The Kings Head in Ravenstondale, thanks for recommendation Ivana & Nigel! Would also highly recommend Owen's Farm Shop & cafe and the Black Bull at Nateby. Definitely booking for next year. Thank you!

  • First time and Pendragon View, but very unlikely to be the last! What a fabulous setting, and so wonderfully peaceful. A fully enclosed garden, so peace of mind for the pooches. Lots of lovely walks from the door, and Kirkby Stephen just a few minutes in the car for essentials. Owen's Farm shop is wonderful, lovely food and atmosphere, fantastic takeaway from the Mango Tree, and although we didn't eat in the Black Bull (Nateby) the menu was tempting.

    Huge shout out to Wellbeing Dog park, being responsible we don't let the dogs off lead where there is livestock etc, so it is just the place for the pooches to stretch their legs off lead and run around. Two definite favourites, the ball pit and the plunge pool, each dog had their favourite!!! Also, refreshments available for dogs and humans. It is one of the best organised secure field I have ever used.

    We don't usually stay outside of the Lake district national park, but this is a whole new world of peaceful countryside, best keep it a secret!!!

  • We've just had our 9th stay at Pendragon View and as always have had the most wonderful, relaxing time. The cottage is super cosy and peaceful. At night it's such a delight to just be able to hear the owl hooting and sheep bleating. A rather remarkable cacophony of nature.
    Walks are plentiful and we still have so much to explore, our faves being High Seat and Wild Boar Fell and for our elderly Border Collie a swim in the River Eden.
    Ivana & Nigel are fabulous hosts and so very welcoming. We like to think of Pendragon View as our 2nd home. It truly is a magical place.

  • Thank you again Nigel + Ivana for another lovely week. The weather has been kinder to us than the forecast said. Done lots more walking around this lovely area. Went to Smardale Nature Reserve on Nigel's recommendation. A lovely place and an added bonus there is a cake cupboard in the carpark with yummy cakes for sale. Hopefully be back again next year.

  • What a stunning remote (but well-located) place!
    When we turned up and had to turn up the little track, slowly drive through a field of sheep to open the gate at the other end - I thought this is the place! I loved the fenced area around the house so the dogs could have a wonder. We had such a picturesque BBQ.
    We visited Smardale nature reserve, The Black Bull, Buttertubs Pass, Malham Cove and they were all wonderful-even with 3 dogs (one being 11!)

  • Came for 4 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday with my partner Lucy and our 3 dogs. The day itself was perfect with a lovely walk along the river taking in a couple of old castles enroute with our 3 dogs, back to the barn for lunch then a 12 mile run to the summit of Wild Boar Fell and back (youngsters take note!), followed by a takeaway from the Indian in Kirkby Stephen. The perfect day to celebrate another big one!
    Our entire stay has been so lovely. The barn conversion is idyllic. It was so comfortable with everything we needed in such a peaceful and beautiful location. Nigel and Ivana were the perfect hosts with a great history and love for the area. Being surrounded by all the lambs at this time of year was an added bonus, and all the birdsong!
    We will definitely be back. Thank you!

  • Fabulous cottage - fully equipped with everything you could need!
    Had three days of sunshine followed by snow!
    Lots of lovely walks nearby. Our short haired Border Collie - Layla, has loved it too.
    Enjoyed the piece and quiet- we've had definitely recharged our batteries here.

  • Thank you Ivana & Nigel for providing this perfect, cosy little cottage from which to explore the area. It was warm and comfortable and the biscuits/ milk/ fresh flowers were a lovely touch. We walked the viaducts, villages surrounding Kirkby Stephen and up to The Nine Standards. On the whole, weather good! Paths to St Mary's Outhgill and in the other direction, Lammerside Castle provided easy routes for late afternoons after the main walks of the day. We would love to come back next year!

  • First time back in the area since 2017 and we're wandering why it's taken us so long to return!
    Pendragon View has been a very comfortable base for exploring and we've loved waking up to the ever-changing view of Wild Boar Fell. Daphne our GSD thinks everything here is fabulous.
    Really recommend a visit to Fairfield Mill if you want to see the work of local artists & makers.

  • A somewhat last minute booking which was handled promptly without any fuss. A comfortable, cosy place with everything you need. Had some deep, restful sleep without any disturbances and the views were spectacular. I will miss waking up to the wide open space and the peacefulness of it. Night skies, sunsets and beautiful sunrises.

    Plenty of space and loved the bookcase contributions, could spend a year there just tucked away reading and contemplating the scenery.

  • Another visit back to Mallerstang and Pendragon that has been just as enjoyable and restorative as our previous stays.
    As ever it's been a week of renewing acquaintance with some walks and places - the viaduct walk around Kirkby Stephen, Teesdale walk at Barnard Castle - and discovering new walks with our two rough collies - Low Force & High Force near Bowes and the Ingleborough cave trail.
    Thanks to Ivana & Nigel for supply with bottled water when United Utilities turned the water off for a few hours.
    We are looking forward to staying here again next year!

  • Pendragon View was the perfect base for exploring with our border collie. We were amazed by the views and tranquility from the doorstep.

  • Our first visit & it has not disappointed. Loved Pendragon View, such a cosy base, beds were seriously comfy. The peace & quiet was just what the Dr. ordered. So many lovely walks from our doorstep. We walked from here to the castle & then did the loop to take in Wild Boar Fell, an epic walk! Myself & Marley (7) didn't quite do the top but the boys did! Seen so many lovely waterfalls and been loving the wildlife on our doorstep. We have all loved it here and hope to come back at some point. Many thanks!

  • Our first time here and really enjoyed our stay. So peaceful & quiet and lovely walks on our doorstep.. Our 3 dogs were settled here too!
    Keswick has lovely cakes & walks and a lovely town. Ingleborough waterfall walks amazing. Richmond has a lovely town.
    Went to The White Hare cafe in Kirkby Stephen - they couldn't do enough for us and they love dogs.

  • Our first stay at Pendragon View. Well equipped cottage and lots to explore in the area.
    We went to Aysgarth Falls and did a short walk with the old dog Teal.
    We had one day in Bowness and went across on the foot ferry. Called at Brough Castle and went to Barnard Castle which was nice to walk around, and it was market day (Wednesday).

  • Our 8th stay at Pendragon View and as always it has been magnificent. Never enough time to explore all the wonders Cumbria has to offer.
    We particularly enjoy High Seat, Wild Boar Fell and for our elderly Border Collie Cautley Spout and Smardale bridge are much easier for the paws!
    It is our 2nd favourite place and the cottage is home from home. The tranquillity and peacefulness is simply sublime.
    Looking forward to returning in 2026 for our 9th stay and some more fabulous Cumbria adventure.

The weather has been kind to us and we've done some lovely walks nearly all of them local. Apart from The Black Bull in Nateby we could recommend The Bay Horse at Winton. Will definitely be back.

  • Gorgeous few days here in this beautiful valley.
    Weather's been lovely. Yesterday started with a snow flurry and ended in sunshine and a spectacular sunset!
    Cottage was cosy, comfy and really clean. Views are breathtaking. Watching oystercatchers in the field, listening to curlews and towny owls. I already want to come back. A very special place to spend my 37th birthday!

  • We've had a great New Year week at Pendragon View. We've had a mix week of weather; cloud, wind, rain, sunshine, frost but the cottage has always been warm and cosy.
    We've had everything we needed for a peaceful and relaxing week, with not a single firework heard all week ... bliss!
    Lovely to see the red squirrels are doing well in this part of the UK; spotted at Pendragon castle, Smardale Gill Nature Reserve and Stenkrith Park. Walk and scenery stunning at Cautley Spout and just down the road from The Thrang to The Water Cut. Short and enjoyable walk at Cotter Force also. We enjoyed a full English breakfast at Owen's Farm Shop/Cafe when it was 50mph winds outside.
